Amazon Offers $8/Month Prime Subscriptions, Great for Shipping and Streaming Just Over the Holidays

Amazon took the wraps off of an $8/month subscription plan for Amazon Prime Memberships today, offering unlimited Amazon Video On-Demand streaming (of select titles), free 2-day shipping, and access to thousands of Kindle books and the Kindle Lending Library. The monthly plan is ideal for people who only want it for a few months?like people looking for free shipping over the holidays. Be warned though: Keep it for too long and you'll pay a premium over just buying a year in advance.

$8/month positions Amazon in a nice spot compared with other streaming video services like Netflix and Hulu Plus, but the real value of the monthly subscription isn't for those people. If you pay monthly for a whole year, you'll wind up paying close to $17 more than just buying a yearly membership outright. Either way, if you just want in on free 2-day shipping for the holidays, it might be worth it to you, especially if you can't find someone to share their Amazon Prime shipping with you for free.
